Nashville tree expert advises more tree watering as states lose millions of trees

As Tennessee and other states continue to struggle with effects of the summer drought, Nashville tree expert says area homeowners should continue watering their trees.

Nashville arborist, Flavio Martinez, owner of Kaily’s Tree service said thought the state has received rainfall in the past few weeks it is not enough.

“This is not the time to stop watering your trees. Though we have had some rainfall and when you look around, it appears trees should be doing fine. The trees are doing better but the problem is that the full effects of the drought are just being felt now. Do not be surprised if you find your trees dead or dying even in this cooler weather,” he said.

Millions of trees lost in Tennessee

The Nashville arborist said that the number of dying and dead trees in area parks is just disheartening.

“When you look at the parks you will understand what I am saying. The number of trees we have lost to the drought is just amazing and very difficult to accept,” he said.

Need for tree watering

He advised homeowners to continue watering trees to help them survive. “Watering of the trees is very important and that is the key to their making it. This is particularly important if the trees are young. Younger trees are vulnerable because they have not had the chance to grow their roots deeper into the soil,” he continued.

Martinez said homeowners also need to look out for insect and pest activities around their trees.

“These trees are like magnets to insects and diseases. They are weak and diseases and pest like to attack them when they are weak and there are many weakened trees around. Homeowners need to keep a close eye on them.”

“Call your local Nashville tree experts at 615-496-1542 as soon as you notice unusual activities,” he said.
