Trees in Nashville bloom after weeks of rain and lower temperatures
Trees in Nashville and other cities in the lower Tennessee valley are showing signs of revival after this summer’s devastating drought.
Tennessee tree experts say weeks of lower temperatures and a few inches of rainfall have allowed the trees and flowers to bloom again.
Flavio Martinez, Nashville arborist and owner of Kaily’s Tree Service said this should not be a surprise to anyone.
“Nobody should be surprised by this development. It is a good thing. We need more rain and hopefully this should help the trees revive quickly,” he said.
“It is almost as if the trees have found their joy to bloom again after this summer’s hot and devastating drought. The trees in Nashville and other Tennessee cities are resilient and have the ability to weather any conditions,” he added.
Looking around and gesturing towards some blooming flowers, Martinez said the favorable weather Tennessee has received these past few weeks has allowed most of the trees and other plants to come back to life.
“We have had some cool nights and warm sunny days. The days have not been as hot as they were during summer time. This has been very helpful for the trees and flowers. The result is what you are seeing around town,” Flavio Martinez said.
“The colors are coming back. This summer was just devastating and it feels really good to see all these colors.”
From Nashville to other cities in Tennessee, it is evident trees are coming back to life.
Horticulturist Greg Grant agrees. "Folks here don't realize how blessed we are to be able to grow so many species of flowers," he said.
Martinez said seeing trees blooming are a good sign because it shows they are still alive.
“In a few years, we may be able to come back to where we were before the drought in terms of the number of trees,” he said.
Martinez cautioned homeowners in Nashville and other Tennessee cities not to assume that tree loss is over. “It is still possible to lose trees especially the younger trees. Their chances of surviving have definitely improved but you still have to watch them carefully,” he added.
The Nashville arborist urged immediate removal of dead trees to avoid attracting pests and diseases. “Unless they are removed, dead trees will attract pests and diseases.
These pests will attack healthy trees that are nearby and you have bigger tree loss when that happens,” he said.
